Deal Tri Spring Aquathon

Spring aquathon, sounded like a nice Easter weekend race for India to make her multisport racing debut.........ummmm, didn't quite envisage her racing in a blizzard!

With Kofi, Nanny Julie and I watching, both Chris and Indie raced in truly appalling conditions. Chris did a 500m pool swim and 8km run and Indie did a 50m pool swim and 500m run. Both did really well, although only one won their age group and got an Easter egg prize, and it wasn't Chris!

Hastings Half Marathon

Did this lumpy old course last year, and I am sure I said not again.....so here I was back on the start line in the chilly drizzle. At least I knew it couldn't possibly hurt as much as the Thanet 20 did a couple of weeks ago.

Well the hills were still there, some of which I had forgotten about, it is only flat for the last 2 miles along Hastings seafront. Was feeling a bit grim by the time I finished (groin strain from Thanet 20 still niggling), and think I have a mild version of the awful V&D bug the kids had all last week. Couldn't even face the traditional cup of tea you get given after this event! An amusing drive back with Deal Tri boys Richard and Paul cheered me up a bit, but spent rest of day not feeling very tip top. Kids much better now though and hoping India will be well enough to race in her first aquathon next Sunday, Chris racing it too, and Kofi and I will be there to support them both.

Richard 1.37.55
Paul 1.49.17
Zoe 1.58.31
Chantal 2.00.08 (1 min 30 secs slower than last year, I blame the rain!)

Pisa

It's the third year Bron, Cath and I have got together for our annual Euro city weekend and this year we headed for Pisa along with honourary guest Dom. It poured with cold rain on Friday but not enough to dampen excellent Italian food and great company. On Saturday we caught the train to Lucca, a historic walled town near the Tuscan hills, a gorgeous place. More excellent food and another walk round the famous leaning tower on Sunday, and then it was time to fly back.....just in time for me to assist Chris with a proper poorly vomiting Kofi.

Thanet 20

What an incredibly painful way to spend Mother's Day!! Ran the Thanet 20 mile road race this morning, starting at Sandwich and then hugging the coastline round Ramsgate to Broadstairs before turning and repeating the course homeward bound. Felt fine until 13-14 miles when suddenly EVERYTHING hurt, ankle, hips, stomach, shoulders.....last 6 miles were pretty agonising with the added delight of a nasty headwind. Crossed the line with Indie, Kofi and Daisy in tow before collapsing in a heap on the grass. Everyone else looked pretty sore and knackered too! Oh I love running....... (Hastings Half Marathon in 2 weeks).....

Scotland

India and I went to Scotland last weekend for 4 days to see Sue, Fru and new addition baby Dylan in Edinburgh. Chris was working in the States for a week and Kofi was having fun with my mum and dad in Surrey.

We also caught the train over to Ayrshire to see my great aunt and uncle for a night. We had a lovely few days away, Indie thought Edinburgh was great, especially the amazing kid's playground on The Meadows, one minute from Sue's flat. Baby Dylan lived up to all expectations, was gorgeous and sweet and seemed to like us Wayman girls!
